Flash Floods and Severe Storms Impact Other States
While the West faces dangerous wildfire conditions, other parts of the country are dealing with heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms.
Flood Watches remain in effect across portions of:
- Missouri
- Arkansas
- Kentucky
- Ohio
- West Virginia
- Tennessee
- Indiana
Officials have warned residents about the possibility of flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas and locations that have already received significant rainfall.
Kentucky has also declared a state of emergency as heavy rain continues to impact much of the state.
Severe Thunderstorms Expected
Meteorologists are also tracking severe storms capable of producing:
- Damaging wind gusts
- Large hail
- Frequent lightning
- Isolated tornadoes
The greatest severe weather risk includes parts of North Carolina, North Dakota, eastern Montana, western Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts throughout the day.
Dangerous Heat Wave Expanding Next Week
While cooler temperatures are expected in parts of the West, much of the central and eastern United States is preparing for an intense early-summer heat wave.
Forecasters expect temperatures to climb well into the 90s across the Midwest, with some cities approaching 100°F. Combined with high humidity, heat index values could exceed 100°F, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Major cities including Chicago, Detroit, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City could experience several consecutive days of dangerous heat.
